Spiritual Accompaniment

With Amanda Muckalt

Spiritual Accompaniment, also known as Spiritual Direction, describes a process where two people (director/directee) sit in the presence of God and have a conversation.

The conversation can involve speaking and listening, prayer and contemplation, and invites Christ/God/Jesus/The Divine, whatever word resonates with you for the non-physical presence of overflowing Love, to work within whatever matter is brought for discussion.

Spiritual Accompaniment is distinct from other 1to1 relationships like coaching and counselling. In Spiritual Accompaniment the goal is God and a key aspect of the role of the accompanier is helping people tap into the way the Divine communicates with them, and know the truth of who they are.

Spiritual Accompaniment is a form of soul care and it’s been a source of nurture and insight for Christians for centuries.

There are times in life when God calls you into deeper relationship

Possible areas for exploration and conversation in a session include:
  • Your faith journey and spirituality.
  • Walking more with God in your day to day.
  • Knowing and living a deeper calling.
  • Discerning the way foward in work or life.
  • Integrating your spirituality with a pressured leadership role.
  • Finding inner peace amidst competing priorities and information overload.
  • Becoming more loving within your work and life.
  • Living a creative life, led by the Spirit.

“Above all, trust in the slow work of God.”

Hello, I’m Amanda Muckalt

As an ecumenical Christian with a heart for the sacred in leadership, nature and the body, I specialise in accompanying overstretched female leaders who want to stay in relationship with God amongst many conflicting dynamics in their work in the world. This accompaniment can take place through general spiritual direction, or through the commitment of the spiritual exercises in every day life.

I trained as a Spiritual Director through the 3 year Ignatian Spirituality Course at the London Jesuit Centre, qualifying in 2024. The training is based on the spiritual exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola which I completed in every day life alongside the first year of the course.
